Mourinho writes off City chances

Bet on Real MadridReal Madrid boss Jose Mourinho believes Manchester City have the ability to beat his side in Wednesday’s Champions League clash but insists they will not qualify for the knockout stage (City 16/1 – To Qualify).

City have failed to shine in Europe’s elite club competition again this term, with two draws and two defeats seeing them sit at the foot of Group D with only two points to their name.

Home draws with Borussia Dortmund and Ajax coupled with defeats at the Bernabeu and in Amsterdam have given Roberto Mancini’s men the proverbial mountain to climb to stay in the competition.

Qualification is not impossible but the Premier League champions would need to win both their remaining matches and hope other results went their way to stand any chance of making the last 16 (City 11/5, Real 6/5, draw 13/5 – Match Prices).

Mourinho believes that, while the first part of the equation is not out of the question, the north-west outfit have left themselves with far too much to do to avoid elimination.

“Last season they are out, and I think this season they will be out again,” he said.

“I think they can win, of course they can, and they can also win in Dortmund, but eight points is not enough.

“So I think they are out for the second consecutive time and that must be difficult for them.”

If they do manage to pull off their first win of the campaign in midweek and Dortmund take care of Ajax, City will then need the Dutch giants to beat Real in the Spanish capital in the final round of matches – an unlikely scenario given the fact that Mourinho’s charges beat them 4-1 away from home.
