Steve McClaren has taken a parting shot at Nottingham Forest (100/1 Championship outright) by attacking the club’s lack of ambition after quitting his post at the City Ground.
Forest have made a shocking start to the season under McClaren, picking up eight points from their first ten games.
Sunday’s 3-1 defeat to Birmingham City at home was the club’s sixth of the campaign and instead of looking at another play-off charge Forest are left looking at a relegation scrap.
McClaren’s appointment was greeted with some scepticism by the Forest faithful and the former England manager has been under pressure to perform right from the off.
The lose at home to Birmingham was the final straw for McClaren, who resigned on Sunday night, waiving his right to any severance pay.
The former Middlesbrough and Wolfsburg boss says he quit over the lack of ambition shown by the club, a similar reason as to why Billy Davies called it a day in the summer.
“I resigned – they don’t share the ambition that I came for,” said McClaren.
Forest are already thought to be on the look out for a new manager, with Martin O’Neill the favourite to take over at the club he use to play for.
