Mancini targets Real win

Roberto Mancini insists that a trip to the Santiago Bernabeu holds no fear for his players and will be sending out Manchester City with the intention of beating Real Madrid (Real 8/13, Draw 11/4, Manchester City 4/1 Match Betting).

City begin another mouth-watering Champions League campaign on Tuesday with a daunting trip to the Spanish capital to take on Jose Mourinho’s men – the 4/1 second favourites to go on lift the trophy.

The Premier League champions have made a solid if unspectacular start to the season but have yet to win on the road this season, following the 1-1 draw at Stoke on Saturday.

Real are a side filled with superstars and have a dominant home record of late but Mancini insists he will not be playing safe on Tuesday night and will be looking to take all three points.

“Our mentality is not to go there – to Madrid or anywhere – for a draw, or to lose. We want to win always,” Mancini said.

“But we know it will be a tough game. We play against one of the best teams in the world, but we want to do our job well.

“If you play against Real or Barca, you are up against 100 years of history, they won everything.

“For this reason, I also think it will be difficult.”

City may well take heart from the stuttering start that Real have made to the campaign, recording just one win out of four games in La Liga so far, losing twice, although Los Merengues did see off Barcelona over two legs to win the Spanish Super Cup.
