Low hit by striking withdrawals

Germany coach Joachim LowGermany manager Joachim Low has received a huge blow with the news striking duo Miroslav Klose and Marco Reus will both miss the side’s friendly with Euro 2012 co-hosts Ukraine on Friday (Ukraine 7/2, draw 13/5, Germany 8/11 – Match Betting).

Lazio forward Klose is out after complaining of tendinitis in his left knee and the in-form Borussia Monchengladbach hitman Reus will not travel due to a stomach virus.

The absence of these two key forwards hamper the coach’s plans to experiment with a 4-4-2 formation rather than the 4-2-3-1 system Low had stuck to in recent years.

Low has stated he still plans to experience in the friendlies with Ukraine on Friday and the Netherlands on Tuesday, adding Klose and Reus could join up with the Germany squad ahead of the game with the Dutch.

The boss told reporters: “Some thoughts I have had now need to be changed because I had planned to have both Klose and Reus and maybe even starting with both of them in Ukraine.

“These were my thoughts but I need to rethink this as they will hopefully join the team on Saturday.”

Germany (7/2 Euro 2012 Outright) won every one of their group matches on way to qualifying for next summer’s European Championships, with only defending champions Spain (5/2 favourites) matching that achievement.
