Key duo wait for Atletico

Champions League trophyAtletico Madrid (13/8 – To Lift The Cup) manager Diego Simeone is facing a nervous wait on the fitness of Arda Turan and Diego Costa for the Champions League final on Saturday.

The pair were injured in the last game of the La Liga season against Barcelona and both appeared to be in a lot of discomfort as they left the pitch at the Nou Camp.

Turan is expected to make the final after tests carried out on Tuesday only showed severe bruising, but for Costa the signs do not look as good.

The club’s top scorer this season with 27 goals is reportedly going through horse placenta treatment in a desperate bid to be fit as time ticks away.

Both Turan and Costa have been key players for Atletico this season and Simeone has said that the club are assessing their fitness closely.

“This is only the start of the week and there are still a few days to go until the final. We’re not going to get ahead of ourselves and say anything – I think it’s far too early to do something like that ahead of such an important game,” he said.

“Having said that, we need all of our players in the best conditions possible. We’re only concerned about ourselves. We will wait and see how Diego and Arda progress – we’ll assess them again at the end of the week and consider what alternatives are open to us if they fail to recover.”

Real Madrid have received a timely fitness boost ahead of the final after the club confirmed that both Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo will be fit for the match, for which Carlo Ancelotti’s side are the 1/2 favourites to lift the cup.
