Jenkinson targets Euro glory

Arsenal full-back Carl Jenkinson insists there is no reason why the north Londoners cannot land the Champions League trophy this season (Champions League outright – Arsenal 16/1).

The defender has taken encouragement from Chelsea’s success last season and feels the current Arsenal side is good enough to land Europe’s top prize ahead of Tuesday’s visit of Olympiakos.

“If Chelsea can do it, then we can do it,” he told Arsenal Player. “There’s nothing stopping us going all the way.

“We’ve just got to make sure we perform to how we can do in this competition and I believe if we do, we will progress.

“In this competition you’ve just got to take it game by game and just focus on it that way. I think that’s the best way to go about things.”

The Gunners will be without midfield enforcer Abou Diaby for the visit of the Greek side as he faces around three weeks on the sidelines (Champions League coupon – Arsenal 4/11 draw 4/1 Olympiakos 8/1).

Fellow midfielder Jack Wilshere is closing in on a first-team return after over a year on the sidelines but he won’t feature on Tuesday, although Mikel Arteta is expected to be available despite a knock.

Boss Arsene Wenger must decide whether to recall centre-half Per Mertesacker to the starting XI or keep the faith with Thomas Vermaelen and Laurent Koscielny, who started in the loss against Chelsea last time out.
