Jefferies still believes

Dunfermline boss Jim Jefferies feels there has been a change in momentum over the past couple of games and has backed his side to beat Hibs in Monday’s must-win SPL fixture (Hibs 5/6, Dunfermline 10/3, draw 5/2 – Match Prices).

The Pars looked dead and buried a couple of weeks ago and are still rock bottom of the SPL table, but they have rallied in the past three games with two draws and a victory pulling them to within five points of 11th-place Hibs.

Although the situation is still dire, they have at least given themselves a fighting chance to escape the drop and remain in the Scottish top flight.

A 4-4 draw with St Mirren was followed by a 3-0 victory over Aberdeen – amazingly, their first home win of the campaign at the 18th attempt (Over 4.5 Goals 5/1).

Five points from three games may not sound a lot but for a side that has struggled all season to get anything going it was just the tonic they needed heading into the final two games.

Hibs did win their last game against the Dons but lost back-to-back SPL games against St Mirran and Kilmarnock without scoring a goal in their previous two encounters.

And it is this fact that Jefferies will use to try and motivate his men, while attempting to heap the pressure on the Edinburgh outfit for Monday’s showdown.

“People are now starting to say the momentum has swung in our favour,” he said.”The signs with the team at the bottom of the league scoring seven goals in two games is phenomenal.

“Hibs are second-bottom and didn’t score at all in those two games so it’s not finished yet and we’re right back in contention. If the positions were reversed we would be a bit anxious and would be looking over our shoulders.”
