Henry headed for Big Apple

ThierryHenry 300x214 Henry headed for Big AppleThierry Henry has signed a “multi-year deal” with MLS side the New York Red Bulls following his release by Spanish outfit Barcelona (4/5 Outright La Liga winners).

The 32-year-old was let go by the Catalan club at the end of last season after failing to break into the starting eleven following the arrival of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and the emergence of Pedro.

Henry’s exit from the Nou Camp had appeared to be on the cards for several months, with reports back in January suggesting he would join an American team to end his career with.

His move to New York has now been confirmed by the club and the Red Bulls general manager Erik Soler is hopeful Henry will be the man to fire his side to glory.

“Thierry is not only a world-class player who will undoubtedly improve our squad, but he has shown most importantly throughout his career that he is a winner,” said Soler.

The MLS side also confirmed that Henry could make his debut in a friendly match against Tottenham on 22 July.

The former Arsenal (Gunners 7/1 Outright Premier League winners) captain says his only focus now is to help the Red Bulls win their first MLS crown.

“This marks an exciting new chapter in my career and life,” Henry told the club’s official website.

“It is an honour to play for the New York Red Bulls. I am fully aware of the team’s history and my sole goal during my time here is to help win the club its first championship.”
