Arsenal (9/4 Premier League Top Four Finish) have confirmed the club’s star midfielder Jack Wilshere has sustained a set-back in his recovery but insisted the player’s season is not necessarily over.
The north London outfit have been sweating over the 20-year-old’s fitness since he picked up an ankle injury in pre-season.
England (8/1 Euro 2012 outright) boss Fabio Capello will also be monitoring Wilshere’s recovery, with the European Championships in Poland and the Ukraine taking place this summer.
Reports emerged suggesting that the Gunners starlet had suffered a set-back earlier this week and now the club have confirmed Wilshere will have to wait for his return to competitive football.
A statement on the club’s website said: “The club can confirm Jack Wilshere has a small stress fracture to his right foot, however it is not accurate to state he has been ruled out for the remainder of the season.
“The injury is in a different area to his previous surgery, and it will be reassessed in around two weeks’ time by our medical team and medical experts who have worked together throughout Jack’s recovery.
“This is a recognised complication of a complex rehabilitation process and, of critical importance, Jack’s initial injury is recovering well.”
