Guardiola eyes Fabregas progress

Barcelona (2/1 Champions League 2011/2012 Outright) boss Pep Guardiola expects the Spanish giants to close in further on a move for Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas before the end of the week.

The Spanish international, who started his career as an academy player with Barca, has been strongly linked with a move back to the Nou Camp this summer.

Gunners manager Arsene Wenger is determined to keep hold of the 24-year-old midfielder, as the north London club hope to end their six-year dry spell without silverware next season.

Barca are expected to make a £35m move for Fabregas and Guardiola believes the Catalan outfit will be close to acquiring the playmaker’s services ahead of the upcoming La Liga campaign.

He said: “Now the situation about moves for reinforcements is very complicated, but I’m hopeful in the next few days it will become clear.

“I’m always optimistic.”

Arsenal (7/1 Premier League 2011/2012 Outright) are also keen to keep hold of their talented midfielder Samir Nasri, who has been linked with a move to Premier League rivals Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea.

The French international has only one year remaining on his current deal at the Emirates but the Gunners may be willing to let the player leave on a free if they can keep him for next season.
