Gomez wary of Marseille threat

Bayern Munich star striker Mario Gomez insists their Champions League quarter-final tie with Marseille is far from over and is taking nothing for granted (Bayern Munich 2/7, Marseille 10/1, draw 9/2 Match Prices).

The Bavarians will take a 2-0 lead into the Allianz Arena clash after goals by Gomez and Arjen Robben at the Stade Velodrome gave them a healthy advantage ahead of the return leg.

Bayern have been on a superb run of form both domestically and in Europe, while Marseille have not won in eight Ligue 1 games and have slipped way down the table.

Everything points to an easy night for the German giants and progression into the semi-finals but Gomez feels that the French side could still pose a threat and insists Bayern will not be looking to rest on their laurels and just play for a goalless draw (0-0 Correct Score 9/1).

“We know it could turn out to be quite a difficult game,” he said. “So many crazy things have happened in football in the past.

“We will not try to play for a 0-0. We want to win again – even knowing that OM are a strong team.”

Gomez has already scored 11 Champions League goals this term and is just one behind Barcelona’s Lionel Messi in the scoring charts.

The Germany international hit-man is eager for more to try and match the Argentinian?s tally but he was quick to play down comparisons with the world?s best player.

“Of course I want to score more goals in the Champions League,” he added. “But I never want to compare myself or be compared to Lionel Messi. He is the best in the world.”
