Gerrard focused on football

Steven Gerrard3760670 300x193 Gerrard focused on footballLiverpool skipper Steven Gerrard has admitted he hopes Saturday’s FA Cup clash with Manchester United is remembered for a great footballing contest between the two giant clubs (Liverpool 8/5, draw 9/4, United 7/4).

Following a fiery encounter between the two rivals in the Premier League, there has been a call for calm ahead of the clash at Anfield this weekend , as both sides hope to book their place in the next round of the famous competition.

Liverpool (7/1 FA Cup outright) have already booked their place in the Carling Cup final this term having got the better of big spenders Manchester City in midweek.

The Reds have never played at the new Wembley stadium and could make two appearances this season, if they can reach the FA Cup final.

Ahead of the big game on Saturday, Gerrard has insisted he wants the encounter to be remembered for all the right reasons.

The England midfielder said: “We all have a responsibility to ensure that this game is remembered for the football.

“Liverpool and Man United is a massive rivalry and, of course, there is going to be stuff in the papers and banter between fans.

“But it would be fantastic if, after the weekend, it is remembered for being a top game and obviously, from our point of view, a Liverpool win.”
