Ferguson sees more title twists

Sir Alex Ferguson believes there will be more twists and turns in the Premier League title race after his Manchester United side slipped four points behind leaders Chelsea following their 3-1 defeat at Everton on Saturday (Betfred’s latest title odds: Chelsea 8/15, United 9/4, Arsenal 13/2).

Fergie conceded the defeat on Merseyside was a big blow to United’s hopes of retaining their title as goals from Diniyar Bilyaletdinov, Dan Gosling and Jack Rodwell cancelled out Dimitar Berbatov’s early opener at Goodison Park.

Chelsea’s 2-0 win at Wolves and Arsenal’s victory over Sunderland by the same scoreline means there is all to play for at the top but Ferguson is convinced there will be more dropped points between now and the end of the campaign.

“We started the game well enough but their goal galvanised them and gave them the incentive,” Ferguson said on the Everton loss.

“You don’t want to lose a goal so quickly after going in front but the real effect showed in the second half when we were second best,” he added.

“We hope other teams drop points and that’s the way it’s been going this season. Hopefully it turns out right again.”

Arsene Wenger, meanwhile, insists Arsenal are still in with a shout of winning the League this following their win.

The Gunners remain six points behind leaders Chelsea and two behind United but Wenger is staying positive, believing, like Ferguson, that teams will slip up.

“The top two will drop points because they play against each other,” he said. “Everton have beaten Chelsea and Manchester United and there are plenty of teams where you can drop points.”
