Ferguson expects Cluj test

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson knows his side will have to be on their guard when they take on CFR Cluj at Dr Constantin Radulescu Stadium in the Champions League on Tuesday night (Cluj 9/2 draw 11/4 Manchester United 4/6 – Match Betting).

Having been knocked out of the competition in the group stages last term, United (9/1 Champions League outright) are even more determined to reach the knockout stages of the tournament this time around and their trip to Romania posses a difficult challenge.

Cluj managed to overcome Basel in their playoff game to enter the group stages of the Champions League and backed that up with a fine victory over Braga in their opening group game.

Ferguson, who saw his side beaten 3-2 by Tottenham at Old Trafford on Saturday, knows what Cluj are capable of and there will be no complacency in his ranks for the clash on Tuesday.

He said: “As part of our preparations we have to assess the opposition and we saw their performance in the last game against Braga.

“[Before that] they knocked out Basel, beating them twice. We know from our own experience last season that Basel knocked us out. That gives us every respect for Cluj because it tells you they’re a good team.”

Provisional squad: De Gea, Lindegaard, Rafael, Buttner, Evra, Ferdinand, Evans, Wootton, Keane, Powell, Cleverley, Anderson, Fletcher, Nani, Tunnicliffe, Lingard, Hernandez, Rooney, Welbeck, Van Persie, Kagawa.
