Sir Alex Ferguson felt the Manchester derby was a game United (7/2 to win 2010-11 Premier League) “needed to win” and was left frustrated by the goalless draw played out at Eastlands.
A much-anticipated game disappointed both the crowd and the watching TV audience, with a lack of goalmouth action at both ends.
With Chelsea (4/1 to win Champions League) defeating Fulham 1-0 at Stamford Bridge, the champions have now extended their lead over United to four points.
Ferguson admitted: “I am disappointed we didn’t win, we needed to win.
“Maybe all the tension in the build-up to the game was too much for it to be a real spectacle.”
Meanwhile, Fergie’s City counterpart, Roberto Mancini, was more upbeat about a share of the spoils, insisting that it was important for both clubs “not to lose”.
When asked about the progress being made by City (2/7 Top Four Finish), the Italian said: “I think this proves City are at the same level as United at the moment.
“We just need some more time.”
Mancini says he feels Chelsea will still win the title again, but believes the race could heat up when the teams reach the knockout stages of the Champions League.
