Fabregas demands final push

Barcelona star Cesc Fabregas has admitted that his side are hungry to win Friday’s Copa del Rey final against Athletic Club and end their campaign on a high (Athletic Bilbao 15/2, draw 7/2, Barcelona 2/7 – 90 minutes).

The Catalan side have one last opportunity to end the 2011-12 campaign with a trophy, but they could be a little short of match practise as their last game was the 2-2 La Liga draw with Real Betis on May 12.

Fabregas admits Bilbao are a “spectacular team” and he expects a difficult clash against a side he admits reminds him of some English clubs he faced during his years with Arsenal.

Despite their lack of action, he is confident Barcelona (7/1 Barcelona 3-0 Correct Score) are motivated and prepared for the challenges that await them on Friday night at the Vicente Calderon.

The midfielder was quoted as telling the club’s official website: “We’re prepared and ready for the final. It’s not normal to wait so long to play a final but our eagerness and excitement to play has helped us overcome the wait.

“I’m sure they are not any more motivated than we are. Our hunger for victory and our excitement hasn’t run out.”

Bilbao were beaten Europa League finalists and they have benefited from a relatively straightforward passage through the Copa de Rey, facing the likes of Oviedo, Albacete and Mirandes en route to the final.

Their captain Andoni Iraola recently told AS his team believe they can cause a real shock and beat Barcelona to the trophy, but he reckons the first goal “will be crucial” on Friday night (18/1 Draw-Bilbao Double Result).
