City seeking trophy redemption

Wembley will be flooded with two shades of blue in Sunday’s eye catching FA Cup semi-final as Champions of Europe Chelsea square up to Premier League holders Manchester City (Match Betting – Chelsea 15/8, Manchester City 11/8, draw 9/4).

With both teams missing out on the chance of retaining their titles this year, the FA Cup presents a vital opportunity to win silverware and salvage the seasons of these sides, in particular Manchester City, with Chelsea still being alive in the Europa League.

Looking at the route the two have taken to their Wembley semi-final, City have taken no prisoners, dispatching of Watford, Stoke, Leeds and Barnsley in some style, scoring 13 without reply in the process.

On the contrary, their London counterparts have come through two replays, one thanks to an impressive two-goal comeback at Old Trafford, the other a less impressive salvaged draw at League One side Brentford, who went on to lose 4-0 at Stamford Bridge.

As for the Chelsea team, the Blues will choose between Demba Ba and Fernando Torres up front. Ba, who is 5/1 to get the first goal against Man City, staked his claim with an impressive winner against Man Utd in the previous round.

The competition’s second highest scorer is the in-form Carlos Tevez, who is 9/2 to bag the game’s first goal, with compatriot Sergio Aguero at 4/1 following his impressive winner in Monday’s Manchester derby.

The other, and perhaps slightly unexpected, semi-final sees Championship side Millwall make the short trip to Wembley to take on Roberto Martinez’s Premier League side Wigan on Saturday (Match Betting – Millwall 7/2, Wigan 8/11, draw 5/2).

It will be only the second time that Millwall face Premier League opponents in the competition, having beaten Aston Villa in the fourth round, with Preston, Luton and Blackburn being their other wins as they look to return to the Cup final for the second time in their history, the first being in 2004.

With Wigan desperately trying to perform their annual trick of staying in the Premier League, Wembley will offer a welcome distraction, and they go into the game favourites after a good run of form.

Despite being in the relegation zone, Wigan are unbeaten in four, one of which being their impressive 3-0 quarter-final victory at Everton. One of those goals came from their top scorer in the Cup this year, Jordi Gomez, who is 15/2 to bag the first goal in the game.
