Xavi dismisses Spain critics

Spain playmaker Xavi has insisted his side are paying no attention to criticism of their recent performances ahead of their Euro 2012 final showdown with Italy on Sunday night (Spain 6/5, draw 11/5, Italy 13/5 – Match Betting).

The Spaniards have been dubbed ‘boring’ by some quarters of the media, as their possession based tactics have led to some less than thrilling encounters in the tournament so far.

However, Spain (8/15 to lift the cup) are the current defending European and World champions and will make history at the Olympic Stadium tonight if they can win their third consecutive major competition.

Only Italy, who saw off one of the tournament favourites Germany in the semi-finals, stand in their way of another title and Xavi has insisted Spain will not move away from their winning formula because of a few rumblings in the press.

The 32-year-old Barcelona midfielder said: “All our players know how to adapt and how we play.

“It is important that our fans can identify with our style. They enjoy it and we enjoy it.

“If people think it is boring that Spain always win, that is fantastic for us.”

Spain are expected to again play no orthodox forward in their starting line-up, with head coach Vicente del Bosque keeping the faith that playmakers, like Xavi, will provide goals in the final in Kiev.
