England’s tricky World Cup draw

England are 33/1 chances to win the 2014 World Cup having been drawn alongside Italy, Uruguay and Costa Rica for next summer’s tournament in Brazil.

The Three Lions will open their campaign against the Azzurri in the Amazonian city of Manaus before facing the Uruguay in Sao Paulo and Costa Rica in Belo Horizonte.

However, it can hardly be described as the ‘Group of Death’ with there being a number of interesting ties to be played, most notably a replay of the 2010 World Cup final in Group B where Spain (7/1 – World cup outright) will face Netherlands, with Chile and Australia making up their quartet.

The other group that jumps out involves Germany who will meet Portugal, Ghana and the USA, although 1978 and 1986 champions Argentina (9/2 second favourites – World Cup outright) have been given a favourable path to the knockout rounds with the South Americans facing Nigeria, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Iran.

Hosts Brazil (3/1 favourites – World Cup outright) will open the tournament against Croatia and will also meet Mexico and Cameroon in the group stage, while 1998 winners France have been drawn alongside Switzerland, Honduras and Ecuador.

Another of the teams to have been given what looks to be a kind group are Belgium (14/1 – World Cup outright) as they will face Algeria, Russia and South Korea, while in what looks to be the weakest group, Colombia will meet Greece, Japan and Ivory Coast.
