Wolves striker Kevin Doyle (11/2 to be the first goalscorer) says he won’t feel guilty if he has to dive to help his side beat Birmingham on Sunday.
Last year’s Championship winners are in deep relegation trouble going into the midlands derby with Blues, having not won any of their last eight matches.
Despite having suffered heavy defeats to Arsenal and Chelsea in their last two games Wolves can count themselves a little unlucky that they don’t have considerably more than the ten points they have acquired with a number of big decisions going against them.
Meanwhile, Birmingham (15/8 to beat Wolves in the match betting) having been steadily climbing the table having gone their last four matches unbeaten and currently find themselves three points outside the drop zone.
However, victory for Wolves (10/11 in to go down in the to be relegated market) today would put them just two points behind Birmingham and Doyle says he is prepared to do anything to help his side get the win today, even diving, due to the fixtures must-win nature.
“The problem is you get a knock from behind, and try to stay up and control the ball, and you end up losing it and not getting a free-kick,” said the former Reading hitman.
“Then everyone criticises you for not going down. I had that against Aston Villa this season when I was fouled but tried to stay up and didn’t get a penalty, so you can’t win as a striker.
“Yes, it has got to that stage where there is a win-at-all-costs attitude in the game, and it’s a skill now for forwards to win free-kicks and penalties.”
