Di Matteo makes Spurs claim

Roberto Di Matteo has warned his Chelsea players that defeat at the hands of Tottenham (Chelsea 10/11, Spurs 3/1, draw 13/5 – Match Betting) in Saturday’s Premier League derby clash at Stamford Bridge will virtually end their top-four aspirations for this season.

The Blues’ caretaker boss has helped get the team’s fortunes back on track since he replaced the axed Andre Villas-Boas in the hot-seat by securing a place in the last eight of the Champions League and also the FA Cup semi-finals.

However, Di Matteo is desperate to ensure there will be Champions League football on the menu next season by guiding the Londoners to qualification via their league placing (Chelsea 6/4 – Top-Four Finish).

But the Blues are currently five points behind Saturday’s opponents after the 2-1 midweek defeat at Manchester City so Di Matteo knows it would be extremely damaging if they lost out to Harry Redknapp’s side this weekend and slip eight points off fourth spot.

He said: “Obviously, a win would give us a big, big lift. But, also, if we manage just to get a draw, I think we’re still in it.

“If we lose, I think it will be very difficult afterwards.”

He added: “Mathematically it is still possible so we will fight until the end but we are looking to have a good game tomorrow.”

Di Matteo also confirmed that skipper John Terry (13/2 – To Score Anytime) will be fit for the Spurs clash after recovering from the calf strain which ruled him out at Manchester City.

“He’s very influential for us in the team and we are very pleased that he’s back,” he added.
