Spain coach Vicente del Bosque described his side’s display in the 1-0 World Cup semi-final win against Germany as ‘magnificent’ and urged them to go on and win the tournament (Spain 4/7 Outright) for the first time.
Carles Puyol’s second-half header handed the reigning European champions a place in the final for the first time, where they will meet Holland in Johannesburg’s Soccer City (Spain 11/10, Holland 11/4, draw 12/5 Match Betting) on Sunday. And del Bosque is calling on his players to get focused on the game and ensure it is Spain and not the Netherlands – beaten finalists in 1974 and 1978 – that is engraved on the World Cup trophy for the first time.
He said: “Our players carried out their job in a magnificent way.
“But let’s think about the game in front of us. We’re in good shape physically – let’s try to win.”
On the semi-final win against Germany, del Bosque added: “From defence through to attack I think we played a great game.”
