Confidence the key – Ferdinand

Rio Ferdinand believes the confidence Manchester United (7/4f – Outright Winners) will take into the new season, after winning the title last term, could be vital in the battle to win the Premier League.

The champions are currently on tour in the USA as part of their pre-season preparations for the new campaign, but have suffered a couple of injury scares.

Antonio Valencia has been forced to sit out the American trip having suffered an ankle injury in the Copa America whilst playing for Ecuador.

Meanwhile, Dimitar Berbatov (20/1 – Premier League Top Goalscorer) has been ruled out of the second match the tour after picking up a knock to his ankle during a training session.

Ferdinand, though, is in upbeat mood and feels the experience throughout the squad of winning trophies will see them finish top of the pile again.

Speaking to United’s official website, the England defender said: “We have got an experienced nucleus who have been here for four or five years and have won things consistently. That breeds confidence, which is invaluable.”

Sir Alex Ferguson’s men will begin the defence of their title on August 14 with a trip to the Hawthorns to face West Brom (Match Betting – West Brom 9/2, Draw 11/4, Man Utd 1/2).
