Clichy keeping title faith

Arsenal left-back Gael Clichy believes the Gunners can still win the league despite back-to-back defeats to Manchester United (11/8 to win the Premier League) and Chelsea (4/6).

The north London outfit are now 16/1 to win their first league title in six years following Sunday’s comprehensive defeat to the Blues, a result which leaves them nine points off top spot.

Despite being outclassed in both games Arsenal (1/9 for a top four finish) manager Arsene Wenger has insisted the Gunners still have a chance of overhauling United and Chelsea.

The Frenchman has now been backed by his compatriot Clichy to see Arsenal claim their first piece of silverware in five years.

“It’s going to be difficult but we have to do it because if we want to be the best, we have to compete. We have to think game after game and it starts with Liverpool. We have to think one game at a time but the less we lose, the better it will be,” said Clichy.

The France (16/1 to win the World Cup) international went on to admit that while the defeats to Chelsea and United have hurt the team he felt they could bounce back, starting with Liverpool (5/2 to beat Arsenal in the match betting) on Wednesday night.

“Let’s work on it, next we play against a good side in Liverpool,” he added.

Having been knocked out of the FA and Carling cups the Gunners best bet for silverware now appears to be the Champions League where they face Porto (50/1 to be outright winners) next week in the last 16 of the competition.
