All or nothing for De Boer

Frank de Boer will tell his Ajax players the only way to continue their education is to secure qualification for the Europa League against Real Madrid on Tuesday (Real Madrid 3/10, draw 9/2, Ajax 10/1 – 90 minutes).

Spain’s capital club have already booked a place in the knockout stages of the Champions League, but Ajax can qualify for the Europa League if they pull off a win at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu – or if Manchester City fail to gain victory away to Borussia Dortmund.

It is a huge incentive for the Eredivisie title-chasers and a chance to continue mixing it with Europe’s big-boys.

Coach De Boer says he is not concerned that Jose Mourinho plans to change his Los Blancos team and wants his players to concentrate on the job in hand (Real Madrid 10/3 – Champions League outright).

He said: “We have a young team and for my players it’s very important to play against European teams. There is a lot to learn.

“I won’t care about what happens between Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund. They need to win and we need it too. I think we can carry on in the Europa League. We can show our potential against every team and beat anyone.”

Toby Alderweireld is expected to recover from the bout of flu that ended his involvement at the weekend, but Ryan Babel (shoulder), Thulani Serero (groin), Davy Klaassen (groin) and Kolbeinn Sigthorsson (shoulder) are all out.
