Cambiasso on the attack

Argentina international Esteban Cambiasso has urged his Internazionale team-mates to forget the “pain and disappointment” of last season and launch an assault on the Serie A title (Inter Milan 4/1 – Serie A Outright).

The Nerazzurri ended a turbulent campaign a disappointing 26 points behind title winners Juventus and were knocked out of the Champions League by Marseille.

A miserable run of form in a four-week spell from the end of January saw Inter slip out of contention in the title race and meant they ended the season without a major trophy, while manager Claudio Ranieri also lost his job.

Veteran midfielder Cambiasso, who played in a 2-0 pre-season friendly win against Koper in Rovereto on Sunday, said the players had to wipe the slate clean (Inter Milan 12/1 – Europa League Outright) to have any hope of mounting a challenge for the Scudetto.

“What happened last year is now the past. Now it all starts again from scratch,” the 31-year-old told Gazetta dello Sport.

“There was pain and disappointment at (last season’s) outcome, but the love for this team has never faded.”

Inter will compete with champions Juventus and bitter rivals AC Milan for the pre-season TIM Trophy at the Stadio San Nicola in Bari on July 21.
