Wayne Bridge is hoping to add his experience to the Sunderland revival and could make his debut for the Black Cats against Norwich City on Wednesday night (Sunderland 5/6, Norwich 7/2, draw 13/5 Match Prices).
The 31-year-old was a transfer deadline-day capture for Sunderland boss Martin O’Neill, who has taken the England left-back from Manchester City on loan for the rest of the season.
The former Chelsea star had become a peripheral figures at Eastlands and had made just two appearances all season and it seemed inevitable that he would be heading for pastures new in January.
And the talented defender is relishing the chance to get back on the pitch, saying: “I’m just excited to start play football again and getting a few games.”
O’Neill has worked his magic on Wearside since arriving late last year and has guided the club from just above the relegation zone to 11th place in the top-flight standings, with 27 points from 22 games played (Sunderland 33/1 To Be Relegated).
They will have a chance to add another three points to their tally when the Canaries come calling in mid-week but will face a tough challenge as Paul Lambert’s men have already won three and drawn four away from home.
Whether or not Bridge plays is open to question but the former Southampton star is relishing the chance to ply his trade with a progressive club.
“This club is on the up, the manager has come in and done very well,” he said.
“Just speaking to him, everything has been positive. Hopefully, I can help the club progress even more.”
