Becks on Brazil absence

The ex-Manchester United and Real Madrid star will instead be in action for his club, LA Galaxy, who face Houston Dynamo in the MLS Western Conference final this weekend.

But 115-cap midfielder Beckham claims his absence from Three Lions coach Fabio Capello’s latest squad is a ‘non-issue’ and says he is not pre-occupied with becoming his country’s most-capped player.

The 34-year-old said: “The England set-up know we (LA Galaxy) are in the play-offs, they expected that.

“It is not an issue. They have sent their best wishes for the game.”

On his World Cup 2010 ambitions with England (Three Lions 6/1 Outright), Beckham added: “My number one priority is being in every squad possible. At the end of the day I am on 115 [caps] and if I reach different goals then great, but it is not the most important thing for me.

“I am not counting down each game. Of course I would love to be up there with Peter Shilton, but at the end of the day the most important thing is the team and always has been.

“It is not important how many caps I get, it is important how far England go in the World Cup.

“I am happy with where I am with England and I am happy we are in play-offs.”

England are without a number of players for the game against Brazil, with Steven Gerrard, Ashley Cole, Glen Johnson, Rio Ferdinand and Emile Heskey among those missing out.
