Former England captain David Beckham has promised West Ham United (9/2 to be relegated from the Premier League) that he will make a decision soon on whether he will join the club.
The 35-year-old was born in east London and may return to the Premier League with his local team.
Beckham is currently contracted to MLS side LA Galaxy and is set to recover from an Achilles injury which ruled him out of the World Cup in South Africa.
Hammers co-chairman David Gold is trying to lure the former Manchester United (11/4 to win the Premier League) and Real Madrid midfielder to the club.
He said: “We had some discussions with David’s agents a few months ago and it was a possibility.
“He’s preoccupied with a few projects but he’s promised he will give every consideration to the possibility of joining us.”
The chairman is looking to bring in new faces to the Hammers squad but has been working on keeping the club’s better players at Upton Park.
London rivals Tottenham Hotspurs placed a bid for West Ham captain Scott Parker but the club have stated that they will not be selling the midfielder at any cost, raising the prospect of him playing alongside Beckham.
