Bayern highlight Gotze factor

Germany star Bastian SchweinsteigerBayern Munich star Bastian Schweinsteiger says fellow Champions League finalists Borussia Dortmund will be weakened by the absence of the injured Mario Gotze (Dortmund 19/5, Bayern Munich 8/11 – 90 Minutes).

Gotze was ruled out of Saturday’s Wembley showpiece earlier this week after suffering a setback in his recovery from a hamstring injury.

It means the talented 20-year-old has played his last game for Dortmund, as he has already agreed a 37million euro move to Bayern in the summer.

Gotze’s Germany international team-mate Schweinsteiger (10/1 – First Goalscorer) believes his absence is a huge blow to Die Roten, who are looking to win the Champions League for the second time after their triumph in 1997.

The 28-year-old also feels Bayern are justifiably favourites to win the first all-German final and lift the trophy for the fifth time in their illustrious history.

It would also seal the second trophy in what could be a historic treble, with the Bundesliga title already secured and a DFB-Pokal Cup final against Stuttgart to come next week.

“When players like Gotze drop out, maybe the team gets a little weaker,” Schweinsteiger said.

“It would have been the biggest game of his career so I sympathise with him. However, Dortmund will put out 11 players who will give 100 per cent for the cause.

“We respect Borussia Dortmund but I believe it’s down to us if we win or lose. If we reach our potential then there are only a few teams in Europe who can beat us.”
