Injured captain Michael Ballack says ‘it is Germany’s time’ to win the World Cup again (2/1 with Betfred) ahead of the semi-final showdown with European Champions Spain this evening.

The experienced midfielder, unable to play for his country in South Africa due to an ankle injury, admits Germany face a tough test against Spain but he is confident of a positive outcome.

Ballack, who has agreed a deal to return to Bayer Leverkusen after being released by Chelsea, says Germany have been the best side in the tournament and he expects them to see off Vicente Del Bosque’s side in Durban.

“It will be difficult to beat Spain tonight, but this is our time,” said Ballack.

“Germany have been the best team in the World Cup and just have to keep it going. Spain deserved to win the European Championship final against us two years ago, but with the confidence we’ve gained from our past two performances, I think its our moment.”

Ballack has been thrilled with the way Mesut Ozil, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Miroslav Klose and co have led Germany to the semi-finals but now he wants them to win the competition so they can truly be remembered as legends (Germany 15/8 to beat Spain).

“Its great to play nice football, but this team need to win something,” he added.

“We’re only in the semi-finals and there’s no point putting in two great performances and losing.

“The 1990 team were winners and that’s what we want to be. The point of entering a tournament is to win it.”
