Sergio Aguero says Atletico Madrid (33/1 – La Liga 2010/2011 Outright) can mount a La Liga title challenge this year under coach Quique Sanchez Flores – who has overseen an upturn in form from his arrival last season.

Los Rojiblancos cruised to a 4-0 win over Sporting Gijon on Monday evening with goals from Jose Jurado, Diego Forlan (2) and Simao.

Aguero, who scored in Friday night’s Uefa Supercup win over Inter, said: “We have produced a good match. We are happy to play, have fun, and we are comfortable in what we do.

“Our goal is to finish in the Champions League, but it is clear that if we continue this way, we can fight for the league.

“We have a boss who analyses our performances, and this makes us motivated and confident. If we add many more points, we can try to win the league.”

Barcelona (8/13) are just behind Atletico after one week of football, following their 3-0 away win over racing Santander, while Real Madrid (11/8) lost early ground by drawing 0-0 at Real Mallorca on Sunday.
