9010694 roger federer 300x197 Federer to trial coach AnnaconeRoger Federer has confirmed that he will work with Pete Sampras’ former coach Paul Annacone for a trial spell, as he looks to get his career back on track at next month’s US Open (Federer 3/1 Tournament Outright).

The 28-year-old Swiss star has moved swiftly to improve his current form, after slipping down to third in the world rankings following a French Open quarter-final defeat against Robin Soderling, which was followed by elimination from Wimbledon (Federer 7/2 2011 Wimbledon Outright) at the same stage against Tomas Berdych.

American coach Annacone will now link up with Federer while he serves out the remainder of his contract as men’s head coach at the Lawn Tennis Association until November.

The 16-time Grand Slam champion is hoping he will help him get back on track having slipped down to his lowest ranking for seven years.

“I’ve been looking to add someone to my team and I’ve decided to spend some days with Paul Annacone,” Federer told his website.

“As Paul winds down his responsibilities working for the Lawn Tennis Association, we will explore our relationship through this test period. Paul will work alongside my existing team and I am excited to learn from his experiences.”

Federer is next due in action at the Rogers Cup in Toronto from August 9, before the US Open gets underway at Flushing Meadows from August 30.
