Demetriou set for Wildcats send-off

9320705 300x200 Demetriou set for Wildcats send offWakefield Wildcats captain Jason Demetriou will be hoping to go out with a bang this afternoon as he makes his final appearance for the club at Salford (10/11 for a Wildcats victory).

The 34-year-old is looking for a new club for 2011 after the Wildcats decided against offering him an extended contract at Belle Vue.

Demetriou was awarded a three-month testimonial this season by the Rugby Football League in recognition of a decade’s service to the English game.

The Australian veteran joined the Wildcats from Widnes in 2003 after previously serving the now defunct Lancashire Lynx and Rochdale Hornets.

A number of other players are making their final appearances for their respective clubs at the Willows including hooker Tevita Leo-Latu, who will be lining up for the Reds next season.

However, Salford duo Malcolm Alker and Karl Fitzpatick both miss out on farewell outings after succumbing to injury (10/11 for a Reds win).

Neither side will be taking part in the end of season play-offs after finishing below the top eight.
