Wright eyes Power cut

Peter Wright is targeting a Premier League Darts double over Phil Taylor on Thursday as the race for the play-offs hots up (Wright  7/2, Taylor 1/2, draw 9/2 – Match Prices).

‘Snakebite will take on the 16-time world champion sitting in the fourth and final play-off place on 16 points, with Taylor just one point and one place better off.

Victory for ‘The Power’ would guarantee him a place at the O2 Arena on May 22, while Wright would hold all the aces going in the final week of the regular season if he stole both points in Newcastle.

It looks set to be a fascinating penultimate week at the Metro Radio Arena, with Gary Anderson, who has the same points total as Wright, scheduled to play Dave Chisnall and still in with a great chance himself of reaching the semi-finals (Anderson 8/11, Chisnall 5/2, draw 4/1 – Match Prices).

But it is Wright who currently occupies the coveted final play-off place and the Scottish-born ace has made it clear that he will not be intimidated by facing the Stoke legend.

“Phil’s the master and we all look up to him, but I beat him the last time so I want to do exactly the same again,” he said.

Taylor plays Robert Thornton in the final week of the regular season while Anderson faces Raymond van Barneveld.

Wright has the unenviable task of squaring off with world champion Michael van Gerwen and may need to beat the Dutchman to stay in the competition.

But the Mendham resident is adamant that he will keep going as he has done all season to try to produce the results he needs.

“I’ve been practising really well recently, and every week I’m having to dig deeper and deeper, and I’ll never give up,” he added.
