Taylor out for revenge against MVG

World number one Phil Taylor (Outright winner 11/4) overcame a scare in his fifth round match with Brendan Dolan to set up a quarter final against Michael van Gerwen at the UK Open in Bolton.

Taylor did not lead in the match with Dolan until the last leg before eventually picking up a 9-8 victory which allowed him to breathe easy once again and look ahead to his match in the last eight.

The 52-year-old has made no secret of his desire to bounce back at the tournament being played in Bolton’s Reebok stadium after the disappointment of his Premier League final defeat to Van Gerwen.

The Power will now have the chance to avenge last month’s defeat when he steps up to the oche against Van Gerwen on Sunday afternoon (Taylor 6/5, Van Gerwen 8/13).

Taylor said: “I struggled tonight and Brendan was the better player, so I’m glad to have hit the 11-darter in the last leg.

“I was lucky to be honest and I made it hard work for myself.

“Brendan had me beaten but I just kept trying and trying and somehow got the job done.”
