Stars ready for tungsten finale

The stage is set for a thrilling and feisty conclusion to the regular season of the Premier League Darts on Thursday night (Michael van Gerwen 5/4 – To Lift the Trophy).

The Dutch duo of Raymond van Barneveld and Van Gerwen have already secured their place in the semi-finals at the O2 Arena but there will be three players battling for two remaining places in Brighton later this week.

Phil Taylor currently sits in third place on 18 points while Scotland’s Gary Anderson is in fourth on the same number of points, with Peter Wright one place and one point back in the standings.

‘Snakebite’ faces the toughest test of all as he squares off with Van Gerwen, and the temperature will be at fever pitch after the pair’s earlier meeting in the competition (Wright 100/30, Van Gerwen 1/2, draw 9/2 – Match Prices).

Van Gerwen was irked with Wright’s on-stage antics in Dublin when he tried to rally the crowd to get behind him on a key shot.

The pair exchanged words but, after the contest, Wright was unrepentant, stating that he would “smash” the world champion next time they meet.

He has subsequently repeated that boast and will have to put his arrows where his mouth is at the Brighton Centre.

A draw for Wright could be enough to book his spot in London on May 22 if either Taylor or Anderson lose to Robert Thornton or ‘Barney’ respectively (Anderson 5/4, Van Barneveld 11/8, draw 7/2 – Match Prices).

It will then be down to leg difference and Wright is ahead of his rivals in that department – just.
