MvG out to derail Flying Dutchman

Michael van Gerwen is determined to keep himself at the top of the Premier League Darts table with victory over Gary Anderson on Thursday (Van Gerwen 4/7, Anderson 3/1, draw 9/2 – Match Prices).

The Dutchman is currently top of the pile, with 20 points from 13 games played, and sits one point and one place above compatriot Raymond van Barneveld.

The world champion needs just one more point from his remaining three encounters to guarantee a spot in the semi-finals at the O2 Arena and earn himself a chance to go on and defend the title he won last year (Van Gerwen – 5/4 To Lift The Trophy).

Van Gerwen has lost only two matches all season, with defeat to van Barneveld in week four and to Phil Taylor in Aberdeen two weeks ago.

And, with matches against ‘Barney’ and Peter Wright to follow, the 25-year-old is looking to put down a marker for the rest of the players by keeping his nose in front of his rivals.

“It’s great to be top of the table going into the last few games of the season and I’m really determined to stay there,” he said.
“It would be a major boost if I could reach the play-offs by finishing top of the league and that is the target.”

Anderson is in a battle with ‘The Power’ to reach the play-offs and will be desperate to take the points in Birmingham, and ‘Mighty Mike’ knows that he will be in for a real tussle in the second city.

“Gary has been in good form over the last few weeks and it’s going to be a very tough game,” he added.
