MVG delighted with play-off spot

Michael van Gerwen, 7/4 to win the PDC World Championship in 2015, was relieved to secure a play-off spot in the Premier League after beating Dave Chisnall.

The Dutchman managed to beat Chisnall 7-4 for his ninth win of the season as he guaranteed a top-four finish. His victory ensured he will take part in the event O2 Arena on May 22 as he looks to continue his dominance at the top of the game.

Van Gerwen (5/4 to win the Premier League) was 4-3 behind at one point but he picked up four legs on the bounce to take the victory.

He now has three weeks until the end of the regular-season and after the match he admitted he was delighted to confirm his place.

“I didn’t play that well, I know I can do a lot better,” Van Gerwen told Sky Sports.

“But on the night the most important thing is to win. Now I’ve qualified for the play-offs it gives me even more confidence and I can chill-out for my games in the next few weeks. I’ll be there!”

Raymond Van Barneveld also confirmed his place in the play-offs after he beat Adrian Lewis 7-3.

The 47-year-old has vowed to cut back on his schedule after collapsing at Berlin airport last week, but he showed no signs of it as he averaged 104.19.

He said: “It’s hard for me to play Premier League darts and during the weekend on the Pro Tours as well.

“I learned a very hard lesson in Germany, It’s stress and I know I have to look after myself. I learned a hard lesson and I’m going to concentrate on the big tournaments from now on.”

Elsewhere in the tournament, Peter Wright beat Robert Thornton 7-5, while Phil Taylor drew 6-6 with Gary Anderson.
