MVG wary of Aussie threat

Michael van GerwenMichael Van Gerwen insists he will be taking nothing for granted when he faces Kyle Anderson in the first round of the Perth Darts Masters (Van Gerwen 15/8 Outright Betting).

The world champion has joined the other top seven players from the PDC for the first World Series of Darts event to be held in Western Australia.

He prepared for the event by taking last week’s Singapore Masters and appears confident of repeating the dose at the Challenge Stadium.

But before he has a chance to face one of his regular foes from the PDC, the Dutchman will need to get past Australian Anderson, who proved just how good he can be when hitting a nine-dart finish at the World Championships last December.

And, with that in mind, ‘Mighty Mike’ has made it clear that, while he already has one eye on the tournament, he will not be getting ahead of himself.

“Kyle’s a fantastic player, one of the best in Australia, and I’m really looking forward to it,” he said. “This is going to be a great tournament and I’m going to try my best to win it.”

Phil Taylor is the 7/4 favourite to win the whole event but will need to bounce back from a quarter-final defeat to Dave Chisnall in Singapore.

‘The Power’ will take on David Platt, who emigrated to Perth from England, in round one, and he seems happy with his game ahead of the match.

“I’m feeling okay and I’m playing well enough, and David will have to be on his toes on Friday,” he said.

James Wade (7/1), Simon Whitlock (9/1), Raymond van Barneveld (10/1), Peter Wright (12/1), Chisnall (12/1) and Paul Nicholson (33/1) are the other PDC stars all eyeing the title Down under this weekend.
