MVG not feeling the pressure

Michael van Gerwen has insisted he can deal with the pressure going into the final of the World Championship, with the Dutchman the 1/5 favourite.

The 24-year-old was in superb form in his semi-final encounter with world number three Adrian Lewis, defeating the two-time world champion 6-0.

For some the pressure of being such a heavy favourite can have an impact on their performance, however Van Gerwen has admitted he is very confident going into the match.

“When you are favourite there is always pressure but on Monday it was on my shoulders as well but it didn’t affect my game at all,” he said.

The world number two will face Peter Wright in the final after the Scot saw off Australian Simon Whitlock 6-2 with a convincing performance.

The first-time finalist has shocked everyone by reaching the final of the tournament but is the outsider at 10/3 in the betting.
