Bradley Wiggins (25/1 – Outright) has moved up to sixth place overall in the Tour de France after finishing 11th in a dramatic stage four of the race.
Cadel Evans (7/1 – Outright) was the stage-four winner as he edged out Alberto Contador (EVS favourite – Outright) in a photo finish at the end of the 172.5km rain-affected trip from Lorient to Mur-de-Bretagne, while Alexandre Vinokourov was third.
Wiggins’ improved ride moves him up the standings and afterwards the Briton declared himself fairly satisfied with how his Tour has begun.
“I’m pretty happy,” the Team Sky rider said. “It’s still early days – these stages are about staying safe and not giving too much away. The real stuff is still to come.”
Thor Hushovd retained the race leader’s yellow jersey after stage four and praised his Garmin team after they have helped him make a fantastic start to the Tour.
“What the team has done until now is incredible,” he said. “It’s a dream start and it’s not stopping. We have to keep on going.”
