Wiggins focused on Giro

Sir Bradley Wiggins (11/10 favourite 2013 Giro D’Italia outright) says he is only focused on the Giro d’Italia and isn’t thinking about his possible clash with team-mate Chris Froome at the Tour de France.

The Team Sky rider heads into Saturday’s first stage in Naples as one of the favourites for the Maglia Rosa after his dominant performance in last year’s Tour.

Despite Wiggins previously hinting that the Giro was his main focus for the year, he has recently stated that he would like to defend the Maillot Jaune, reportedly causing plenty of friction between himself and Froome (11/10 favourite – 2013 Tour de France outright).

The Kenyan-born rider guided the Olympic time-trial champion through the mountains during last year’s La Grande Boucle and was arguably the strongest man in the race, leading to him being talked-up as the favourite for this year’s edition.

Wiggins (10/1 – 2013 Tour de France outright) is doing his best to avoid any furore over the situation though and says he will only think about June’s race, after he has done everything he can to win his maiden Giro.

“We’re at the Giro now, and as much as everybody would love to talk about that – including the British press, because they don’t seem to quite understand it – it’s really just concentrate on this first,” he said. “Training has gone well this week and everything is on track and we’re here now.”
