Thomas last Briton left in Tour

Geraint ThomasTeam Sky’s Geraint Thomas is the only British rider left in the Tour de France after Simon Yates was withdrawn (Alejandro Valverde 15/8 – Tour De France 2014 Outright Without Vincenzo Nibali).

Yates was brought in by Orica GreenEdge at the start of the month after Daryl Impey’s suspension but the 21-year-old has been withdrawn after 15 stages.

Orica GreenEdge were pleased with Yates’ performance and tipped the youngster to enjoy a bright future, but his involvement in the 2014 Tour has come to an end.

The Australian team tweeted: “After an impressive debut, Simon Yates will head home to recover, destined for more great things to come.”

Monday is a rest day for the riders before the Tour resumes on Tuesday with three gruelling mountainous stages in the Pyrenees and an individual time trial.

The competitors will then begin the traditional processional ride into Paris on Sunday, which ends with a sprint finish on the Champs Elysees in the French capital.

Rafal Majka is 6/5 to be crowned King Of The Mountains, while current Tour leader Vincenzo Nibali is 5/2 to do the same.
