Former England captain Michael Vaughan is confident that England can pick up a notable Test series victory in South Africa (England 4/1 South Africa 1/2, draw 7/2 Test Series Betting) because he feels the world’s top-ranked side do not have anything in attack to trouble them.
Andrew Strauss’ men go into the Test tour of South Africa full of confidence following the summer’s Ashes win against Australia, while they currently lead the ongoing five-match one-day international series 1-0 with two left to play (England 13/8, South Africa 9/4, the draw 13/8 ODI Series Betting).
Vaughan feels that the Proteas are thin on the ground in terms of bowlers who could trouble England which is why he is tipping the tourists to pick up another confidence-boosting series win ahead of next winter’s Ashes series in Australia (England 10/3, Australia 4/7, the draw 7/2 Ashes Test Series Betting).
He told sportinglife: “I thought to start with it was going to be a real tough trip but I’m quietly confident. I think we’ll win.
“I also look at South Africa, and their bowling attack doesn’t put the fear of life into me.
“I think it’ll be difficult for both teams to take 20 wickets – I expect both sets of batters to score quite heavily against both sets of bowlers. It could be 1-0.
“They’ll be looking at our attack and saying the same thing that there’s not a great deal behind Jimmy Anderson, but I think (Stuart) Broad’s impressive and (Graeme) Swann if it spins is a real attacking option. (Graham) Onions if he gets fit will be dangerous.
“I think we’re developing a team thast could generate into a real good one. I’ve got really good vibes about this England team at the moment, and hopefully this will be the next rung on the ladder towards becoming the number one team in the world.”
