Trott upbeat over duo

10071670 300x216 Trott upbeat over duoBatsman Jonathan Trott is confident that skipper Andrew Strauss and key bowler Graeme Swann will be fit to face the West Indies in England’s vital Group B clash on Thursday (England 4/6 to beat West Indies).

The duo are both suffering from stomach upsets and missed practice on Tuesday, with just 48 hours to go before England’s must-win encounter with Darren Sammy’s men in Chennai (England 12/1 to win World Cup).

England need to take the points or they will fail to qualify for the last eight of the tournament - and even victory will not guarantee them safe passage if other results go against them.

Therefore it will be important to have the experienced pair in the side, with Swann having already come out and made it clear that he intends to “bowl England to victory” against the men from the Caribbean.

Trott is aware of just how important both Swann and Strauss are to England’s cause and expects them to play a full part on Thursday.

“They’re two key players and would be in anybody’s team,” he said. “I’m pretty confident they will be all right.

“These things are normally 24 or 48 hours. I could give you a better idea tomorrow if they train.”

Trott himself, along with Paul Collingwood, has also been under the weather but the Warwickshire  man is already on the mend and feels illness is inevitably going to happen given the extremes of conditions on the sub-continent.

“It’s one of those things,” he added. “You go from sweating on the field into cold air con and stuff like that. I’m not 100% today but I should be tomorrow.”
