Dhoni to learn from Old Trafford

Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh DhoniIndia captain MS Dhoni is confident that his side will learn from the mistakes of their poor performance at Old Trafford to level the series with England in the final Test (Match Prices – England 5/4, Draw 6/5, India 5/1).

After winning the opening match at Trent Bridge, the tourists’ performances have got worse with every outing, culminating in an innings and 54 run defeat in Lancashire in just three days, one of which a large part was lost due to heavy rain.

It means heading into the final Test at the Oval, Dhoni’s men find themselves 2-1 down in the series and England will be confident of wrapping up the contest in style having embarrassed the fearsome Indian batting line-up last week.

One of the key issues for Duncan Fletcher’s side was their inability to deal with the movement the hosts were generating off the soft wicket in Manchester, prompting a number of their batsmen to play woeful shots that in the end saw them make just 313 runs during their two innings.

Dhoni (7/1 Top Batsman – India (1st Innings)) admits his side must be more vigilant when the final Test gets underway on Friday but is confident they will have learned enough from the experience to force a positive result and level the series.

“You just have to pull the bowler towards you rather than going outside off and looking for the big shot,” he said. “If you can look to push them to bowl to you actually you can control the swing much better and you can play your strokes.

“That is something to an extent we lacked. Hopefully we will learn from it out and move into the next one which I feel will be very important to us.”
