Surrey seek home comforts

Gary WilsonSurrey will be looking to secure a home NatWest T20 Blast quarter-final with victory over Middlesex on Thursday evening (Surrey 4/11, Middlesex 2/1 – Match Prices).

The London rivals are set to go head-to-head at Lord’s in a match that features clubs that have enjoyed differing fortunes in this season’s event.

While Surrey have already qualified for the play-offs, with 16 points from 12 games played, Middlesex are rock bottom of the South Group standings having won just two of their 12 20-over encounters this term (Surrey 9/2 Outright Winner).

They have struggled to compete in the shortest version of the sport, despite boasting the likes of Eoin Morgan, Dawid Malan and Dan Christian in the ranks, and even victories in their remaining two games will not prevent them from picking up the wooden spoon.

Their neighbours are in rude health however, and victory number nine would see them draw level on 18 points with Hampshire, who have already finished their group programme.

And, barring a crushing defeat in their final encounter against Kent Spitfires, a superior net run-rate would see Gary Wilson’s men book a home tie in the last eight.

Surrey were beaten by Kent in the Championship on Wednesday and now, back in a format they enjoy, acting skipper Wilson has urged his men to dig deep to get the win they need on Thursday.

“There are a few tired bodies in there I won’t lie to you,” he told the club’s website. “We have to dust ourselves down; we have an important game against Middlesex.

“We’re one win away from a definite home quarter-final and we know how important that is.”
