Surrey benefit from Kartik lift

Spin bowler Murali Kartik looks set to make his debut for Surrey after being named in their squad for Saturday’s Clydesdale Bank 40 game against Glamorgan (Glamorgan 13/8 Surrey 1/2 – match prices).

The 35-year-old has joined up with Surrey for the rest of the campaign after playing in the Indian Premier League and he brings real experience to the KIA Oval, with 319 wickets in English domestic cricket during spells with Lancashire, Middlesex and Surrey.

Kartik comes straight into the squad for Surrey’s three Group B games inside four days, with clashes against the Hampshire Royals on Sunday and the Scottish Saltire on Tuesday following Saturday’s trip to the SWALEC Stadium to take on Glamorgan.

Surreys team director Chris Adams reckons there is confidence around the camp that they can have a successful period over the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Bank Holiday weekend and continue their 100% record in the Clydesdale Bank 40, with three wins from their first three games. He stated: “We are delighted to welcome Murali Kartik to the club. He will bring an extra dimension to our squad and his experience will be invaluable in the dressing room.

“This run of three games in four days is a critical period in our CB40 campaign. If we can win all three then we will have put ourselves in a very strong position in Group B.”

On Friday night, Kent take on Warwickshire at Canterbury and the Bears head coach Ashley Giles has called on them to put on a show in front of the SKY TV cameras and continue their own unbeaten record in the Clydesdale Bank 40 (Kent 6/5 Warwickshire 4/6 – match prices).
