India‘s hopes of clinching the ICC World Twenty20 (India 4/1 Tournament Outright) have been hit by the news star batsman Virender Sehwag has been ruled out of the tournament after suffering a shoulder injury.
It appears the 31-year-old has suffered the injury while playing for Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League as he was fit when named in the India squad on March 26, but has since played in 14 matches for his IPL side.
Sehwag has been replaced in the 15-man squad by 26-year-old opener Murali Vijay, who has impressed in the IPL with 417 runs for Chennai Super Kings (11/4 IPL Tournament Outright).
The injury blow is simlar to the one which kept Sehwag out of last summer’s ICC World Twenty20 in England which India crashed out of in the second round without winning a game.
They will look to at least emulate their 2007 run to the final when they line up in Group C (India 8/11 To Win Group C) alongside South Africa and Afghanistan from May 1.
